The Godley Wildcat football team faced many obstacles last season. The Wildcats began the season with high expectations, but injury plagued the team and caused for a different outcome. Only finishing last season with a 4-6 record and a 2-3 finish in District 4-4A D2 and not making the playoffs for the first time in nine years, the Wildcats expectations for this year have been set to high standards, yet again, in a recent poll. Compiled by the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) and TheAthleticsDepartmet.com, the Preseason Regional Polls have been released.
The Class 4A Division 2, Region 1 Preseason Poll is in the following order: No. 1 Celina; No. 2 Sweetwater; No. 3 Bridgeport*; No.4 Bushland/Vernon (Tied); No. 6 Monahans; No. 7 Midland Greenwood; No. 8 Venus**; No. 9 Iowa Park/Perryton (Tied).
Other Receiving Votes: No. 11 Dallas Lincoln**/Krum (Tied); No. 12 GODLEY; No. 13 Dallas Madison**; No. 14 Ferris**
Note: Teams marked (*) are regular season teams the Wildcats will face, teams marked (**) are District 4-4A opponents.
TheAthleticsDepartment.com: "The Coaches Poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of coaches at UIL schools. The panel is chosen from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the Texas High School Coaches Association their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top 10 on their region. The poll is displayed with first-place votes in parentheses, records, points based on 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1, and the team's ranking in last week's poll."
